The Mighty Meteors program is offered at partnering public and private elementary schools throughout the Greater Chicago Area, beginning with pilot sites in Elgin, Illinois and surrounding communities. Additional sessions and showcases may also take place at approved church or ministry partner sites such as gyms or fields
How much does cost for my child to participate?
There is no cost for participants or their families. Mighty Meteors is a free community-based program supported by partnerships and donations.
aRE YOU LICENSED AND INSURED?
Mighty Meteors operates as a license-exempt before- and after-school alternative sports ministry program under Austin Comets Athletics, LLC. The organization maintains general liability insurance coverage, and certificates of insurance are available for partner churches and hosting sites
dO YOU PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION FOR PICK-UP OR DROP-OFF OF MY CHILD?
Currently, parents or guardians are responsible for transportation after programming. Participants must be picked up directly from the program site, and staff are not permitted to transport children in personal vehicles. In the future, ministry partners may provide limited transportation options using company-owned vehicles.

Staff Qualifications

ARE YOUR STAFF QUALIFIED TO RUN A sPORTS PROGRAM?
Yes. Staff complete formal training in youth development, child safety, first aid/CPR, behavior management, and faith-based instruction. Training is conducted by the Area Commissioner and Head Coach, with additional refreshers provided midyear.

wHAT IS YOUR STAFF-TO-CHILD RATIO?
The minimum staff-to-child supervision ratio is 1:5, with a maximum of 1:15, adjusted for age groups (e.g., 1:10 for older participants). Enrollment capacity per school site is capped at 100 students.
dO STAFF MEMBERS COMPLETE BACKGROUND CHECKS?
Yes. All staff and volunteers are required to complete background checks prior to working with children. The program budget specifically allocates funding for these screenings.

Child Safety

What are your security and emergency procedures?
Safety is our top priority. Each site follows a detailed Emergency Action Plan (EAP) that covers medical emergencies, severe weather, and facility safety.

All staff are trained in CPR/First Aid, emergency response protocols, and proper supervision practices. In the event of any incident, parents are contacted immediately, and reports are documented and reviewed for accountability.
How do you ensure my child’s safety during Sessions?
We maintain a strict supervision policy to ensure every athlete is safe at all times. Children are never left unsupervised before, during, or after programming. All staff are trained in child protection standards, emergency procedures, and positive behavior management. In addition, all facilities are inspected regularly for safety hazards, and all equipment is maintained to meet or exceed youth sports safety standards. Parents are always welcome to observe practices and encouraged to stay connected with their child’s coach for open communication.
How do you handle physical contact and boundaries between staff and athletes?
All staff and volunteers at Austin Comets Athletics follow a strict code of conduct that clearly defines appropriate boundaries between adults and youth. Physical contact is limited to what’s necessary for safety, instruction, or encouragement (e.g., a handshake or high-five). Coaches are trained to model professionalism, respect personal space, and maintain transparency at all times. Our “open-door” policy invites parents to observe any practice, meeting, or event at their discretion.
How do you protect children’s privacy and digital safety?
We take digital safety very seriously. Photos or videos of athletes are only taken or shared with parent/guardian consent, and personal information is never posted publicly without permission. Staff are prohibited from private or one-on-one electronic communication with youth outside approved team channels. All online interactions follow safe communication guidelines established by our company, Austin Comets Athletics.
