CALLED TO MAKE DISCIPLES

The greatest goal of our sports fraternity is to lead young people to the knowledge of Jesus Christ, the Lord our God. We believe it's imperative for youth and children to know who God is and what type of people he's called them to be. Prospective athletes start the journey of becoming his disciples through a bible study series led by our sports coaches. It's our hope that the end result will be lives growing in their identity in Christ and service to him and his people through creative ways.
​Membership is usually given to youth and children, boys and girls between the ages of 8-18, who are sponsored by a current or former member of the sports fraternity. Membership is for one year that must be renewed at the end of the annual term. Membership status, after the year, is reviewed by the leadership team to consider a renewal. All prospective members pay an annual fee of $60 which covers 12 months of membership and includes payment towards sports insurance, uniform and the discipleship bible study curriculum. Fees for participation in sports programs are an additional cost.

Recruitment Parties

Recruitment parties usually take place at the beginning of the school year,
and may be held at your local school
​or at one of our chartered partners. During these parties you
​will have the opportunity to meet with a coach, get questions answered, and fill out an application to join.

Austin Comets Athletics offers an online application process, through a platform called LeagueApps, that can be completed from start to finish without a single piece of paper changing hands.

CRITERIA TO BECOME A COMETS MEMBER

  • Must be at least 8 years of age.
  • Must be a resident and legal citizen of the U.S.
  • Must be nominated or sponsored by another member.
  • Must be teachable.
  • Must be trustworthy.
  • Must be of good reputation and integrity.

EXPECTATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

A member of this sports fraternity is defined as: One who has registered, paid the annual membership fee, fully completed the initiation probation process (IPP) as a "Athlete-in-Training" or "AT" and has been commissioned for service in a sport through ceremony.  

As a member of Austin Comets Athletics, it is required to meet each of these expectations quarterly and annually:
  • Must maintain a minimum passing grade or GPA of 2.5 (for students only)
  • Remain up-to-date on the annual membership fee.
  • Must cheer on and help to support all sports programs in Austin Comets Athletics.
  • Must be active in competing in either intramural, travel teams or completing instructional or discipleship classes.
  • Must attend 85% of practices/classes/meetings each year.
  • Must attend 75% of all events each year.
  • Follow all directives of ranking members: captains, senior members and/or officers.
  • Commit to ongoing fundraising for the sports fraternity.
  • Complete %100 of the "I am a Disciple" discipleship bible study curriculum.

Member Rights 
  • To be treated equally with all other members, and with dignity, to be called a member. 
  • To wear Austin Comets identification (badge, pins, etc.).
  • To be held to the same standards and expectations as all members.
  • To be given due process for all alleged infractions. 
  • To be properly instructed and understand the concepts and teachings of Austin Comets Athletics.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS​

  • For the future, live in member clubhouses and participate in house meetings.
  • Discounts and access to camps, classes, clinics, and other events in the organization.

What is a Austin Comets Member?

Do I have to be a member to participate in Comets Sports, events, activities?

No, all Comets programming is open to all participants. Members receive a a discount for sports programs.

Are there any additional cost to membership or dues?

Yes, if any member decides to actively participate in any sports programs or events there may be a program fee or dues collected separate from the annual fee to help support equipment, supplies or transportation needs.

What's a Comets Membership Card?

Members receive a membership card that must be used to throughout the program.
